Instead of the usual Posted by : Authorname message at the bottom of each post you can put in a signature image to give your blog a bit of pizazz.
To do this login at Blogger.com and click on Layout link on Dashboard. Then click on Edit Html subtab of Template tab. Put a check in the Expand Widgets template check box at the top of the template code box. Then scroll down to this code in the blog footer :
<b:if cond='data:top.showAuthor'>
<data:top.authorLabel/> <data:post.author/>
</b:if>
Replace
<data:post.author/>
in the code with :
<a href='LINK TO YOUR PROFILE'><img src='LINK TO YOUR IMAGE' style='border:0'/></a>
Replace the CAPS with the link to your blogger profile and the link to your image. Of course you have to create your image first, upload it to Photobucket.com and copy it's link to paste it in the above code.
This gives you a signature at the bottom of your post and links it to your Blogger profile.
Enjoy!

Thanks for the detail to this creative approach and shortening my learning curve. It's really amazing how much you can do with blogs.
I did this and it works great-I wondered if I have to have a special code to make my image signature have a caption come up when I mouse over it-I tried to do it like I usually do when I try this procedure-but blogger will not let me insert that code.
Update on previous post-put in the wrong image. Perfect directions for doing so much more with a blog.
We sell it all....,
Use this code :
<img src='LINK TO YOUR IMAGE' style='border:0' alt="YOUR CAPTION"/>
this sounds like, with a little variation, it could be used to add my blog's url as a signature. could you tell me how i might do this?
glenellynboy,
You wish to add an image of your blog URL or just the typed URL or a link to your blog?
yes, thank you for your reply. now...1. i don't exactly know what you mean by an image of my url. 2. all i want to do is enable the reader to go to my blog. so that would be accomplished simply by a typed statement of the url that links to the blog, so i would have to say yes to both your second question and your third. thanks again.
glenellynboy,
There are sites where you can convert typed text into an image.
Where do you want to add the signature - in a forum?
yes, in blogger forum posts. but i feel certain you are using the term "image" in a technical way with which i am not very familiar. my concept is very crude, for example, i would think of this present entity which you are reading an image, because you see it. but i also would think of it as typed text, because i typed it and it consists of characters, and those characters belong to the set of entities called text. i vaguely am familiar with a more abstract idea of the term image, where there is a duality, one aspect of which exhibits a correspondence to the other, a correspondence of more or less similarity or even homomorphism. for instance, a certain string of code in one location may produce a certain phenomenon somewhere else, and the phenomenon might thus be called an image of the string of code. perhaps there is a conventional agreement on the use of the term image which allows just this use i am describing, but perhaps with less accompaniment of baggage. this all may seem overwrought disputation, but i haven't read a great deal of your output and i am forced to supply a large amount of uncertainty about how you use a term--image--which i flag as possibly requiring my examination before leaping into action or words. i hope you are sympathetic to this approach.
glenellynboy,
There are some forums which allow images as signatures. If you mean the Blogger Help Google Group I don't think it allows image signatures.
But if you post to a Google Group via email and your email has a signature image then it appears in the message.
i see now that by image you mean a patch of area not restricted to characters but can have any graphic, and clicking on this image takes you to a site. no, i dont need this. all i need is to have the url itself appear as text and link to my blog.
glenellynboy,
Just paste the URL at the end of your message. Like this :
http://betabloggerfordummies.blogspot.com
http://seoblogadsense.blogspot.com
http://widgetry.blogspot.com
http://tipsforbloggers.blogspot.com
In Google Groups they automatically become links.
how do u remove "Posted by"?
Anonymous,
Click Edit link in Blog Posts gadget on Layout---->Page Elements subtab and uncheck Posted By and save.
